Consultant Plastic Surgeon 
Eminent consultant plastic surgeons in order of lectures
 
 
Mr. Niall Kirkpatrick MBBS, BDS, MD, FRCS, FRCS (Plast)
 
Former President of the Plastic Surgery Section at the Royal Society of Medicine, Consultant Plastic Surgeon in the Craniofacial & Orbito-Palpebral Surgery Unit at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, London, where he is the lead clinician. Mr.Kirkpatrick is a member of the multidisciplinary team for the management of skin cancers at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. He was recently appointed Consultant Plastic surgeon at the Royal Marsden Hospital, London, where he is a member of the Head and Neck Unit, one of the largest of its kind in Europe.
 
He qualified in both Medicine (MBBS) in 1990, and Dentistry (BDS) in 1984, from Guy's Hospital, University of London. After completing training in General surgery and becoming a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) in 1996, he trained in Plastic surgery and was accredited by the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS Plast) in 2001.
 
During his Plastic surgery training, Mr Kirkpatrick obtained specialist training fellowships in Craniofacial surgery at both Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, and the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, and in Head and Neck surgery at the Royal Marsden Hospital, London. He also obtained a specialist training fellowship in Aesthetic surgery at the Wellington Hospital, London.
 
Mr Kirkpatrick's special interests, in his NHS practice, are Craniofacial and Reconstructive Facial surgery. In private practice he undertakes all aspects of Cosmetic and Aesthetic surgery, as well as Reconstructive and Craniofacial surgery. He has published extensively in the medical literature and lectures both nationally and internationally.
 
 He is a member of the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS), the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS), the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ISAPS), European Society of Craniofacial Surgery (ESCFS), the British Association of Head and Neck Oncologists (BAHNO) and associate member of the British Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (BAOMS).
 
 
Mr. Philip Gilbert MBBS, FDS RCS FRCS Ed (Plast)

Current President of the Plastic Surgery Section at the Royal Society of Medicine, Mr Philip Gilbert is a Consultant Plastic Surgeon and Director of the McIndoe Burn Centre, Queen Victoria Hospital, East Grinstead. He is also a Consultant Plastic Surgeon at Medway Hospital NHS Trust, Medway Maritime Hospital, East Grinstead.
Philip Gilbert initially trained in dentistry and oral & maxillofacial surgery. After graduating in medicine in 1977, he trained in plastic surgery.
 
He has held consultant posts at the University of Rotterdam, Edinburgh and now East Grinstead. His specialist areas of work are burn injuries, vascular malformations affecting skin, head and neck anomalies and deformity, aesthetic surgery, skin tumours and swellings, difficult wound management, facial deformity and anomalies in conjunction with maxillofacial and ophthalmic surgeons. His general plastic surgery work both NHS and private has included a considerable number of breast cases, both reductions and augmentations.
 
He has presented lectures at national plastic surgery meetings relating to these. He is a member of the British Association of Plastic Surgeons, the British Burn Association and the International Society for Study of Vascular Anomalies.
 
Mr.Gilberts is a patron of Angels International, a charity founded in 1990, supplying medical aid and promote education and training for local doctors, nurses and health workers in the third world.
 
 
Prof. Jagdeep Nanchahal BSc, PhD, MBBS, FRCS (Plast)

Jagdeep Nanchahal is head of the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Charing Cross Hospital and Professor of Hand, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery within Imperial College, based at the Charing Cross Hospital campus, head of The Kennedy Institute, dedicated to research in musculoskeletal disorders and is pre‐eminent in the world for translational research. Amongst their greatest achievements is the development of anti‐TNFa treatment for patients with rheumatoid arthritis.

Professor Nanchahal trained at the Charing Cross Hospital and Westminster Medical School in London. He undertook an intercalated BSc in anatomy in 1980 and went on to complete his PhD in 1982. Following graduation from medical school in 1985, he undertook his basic clinical training in London and was awarded the fellowships of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons of Edinburgh and England in 1989 and was awarded the intercollegiate specialist fellowship in plastic surgery in 1996. He undertook fellowships in hand and microsurgery in Sydney and the USA, before returning to London to be appointed as senior lecturer in plastic and reconstructive surgery at Imperial College School of Medicine. In 2002, he was appointed associate Professor at the University of Sydney, based at the Royal North Shore Hospital, before his return to London in 2006.
 
His clinical interests relate mainly to surgery of the upper and lower limb and have a particular interest in microsurgical reconstruction. He is a member of several learned societies, including the British and Australian Societies for Hand Surgery and the British Association of Plastic Surgery.
His research activities have won numerous national and international awards, including the AO UK trauma prize as well as the prize for best paper for two consecutive years at the Australian Hand Surgery Society Meeting and the Hueston medal. He has published more than 50 papers in peer-reviewed journals and has been an invited lecturer on many occasions. He is committed to the development of academic surgery and has supervised many surgical trainees.
 
 
Mr. David Floyd BSc MBBS, MSc, FRCS, FRCS (Plast)
 
Mr.David FloydDavid Floyd graduated from Cambridge University in 1985 and completed his medical degree at University College London in 1988. Following 4 years of General Surgical training he gained his FRCS in 1993. In 1995 he was awarded a Masters degree for his research into scarring and wound healing.
 
His specialist interests were developed with fellowships at Great Ormond Street Hospital in paediatric plastic surgery, The Royal Marsden Hospital in breast reconstruction and The Wellington Hospital in cosmetic surgery. He passed the FRCS (Plast) in 2001.
 
Mr Floyd entered the GMC Specialist Register for Plastic Surgery in 2002. He is a full member of the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS), the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS), the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) and the British Society of Surgery of the Hand (BSSH). He is a Consultant Plastic Surgeon and Honorary Senior Lecturer at The Royal Free Hospital and University College London Hospitals. He is the current president of the plastics section at the Royal Society of Medicine.
 
His particular interests include cosmetic surgery of the face, breast and abdomen, adult and paediatric hand surgery and reconstructive surgery of the breast and lower limb.
 
 
Mr. Neil Bulstrode BSc, MBBS, MD, FRCS, FRCS (Plast)
 
"Plastic surgery is my passion. It is important to appreciate and use the powerful techniques used in reconstructive surgery to improve the results of cosmetic procedures, and to use my cosmetic surgical skills to enhance the results of plastic and reconstructive surgery."
 
Mr Bulstrode was educated at Sherborne School, UK, before commencing his medical studies at Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School, London. During this time he also gained an honours degree (BSc) in Physiology. He graduated in 1993 (MB BS) and continued his surgical training in London to become a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (FRCS) in 1997.
 
He trained in Plastic, Reconstructive & Cosmetic Surgery at a number of premier plastic surgery units both in London and Sydney, Australia. This included a two year period of research at the RAFT institute of Plastic Surgery at Mount Vernon Hospital resulting in the award of a Doctorate Of Medicine (MD) in 2002. He has trained with some of the UK's top Cosmetic Surgeons and was the Cosmetic Fellow at the Wellington Hospital. He passed the Plastic Surgery Specialist Fellowship - FRCS (Plast) - of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2005, entered into the GMC Specialist Register for Plastic Surgery in 2006 and is a Full Member of both the British Association of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS) and British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS).
 
Mr Bulstrode is widely published with over twenty-five peer-reviewed papers on an extensive range of plastic reconstructive and cosmetic surgery topics including face lifts, rhinoplasty and Botox. He has presented work internationally in Europe, the USA and Australia.
 
Mr Bulstrode has both an NHS reconstructive and an adult aesthetic/cosmetic practice. He is a Consultant Plastic Surgeon at Great Ormond Street Hospital and is the Clinical Lead for the Plastic Surgery Department. This involves the reconstruction of congenitally deformed children, ear reconstruction, craniofacial surgery, the treatment of giant congenital naevii (moles) and vascular anomalies. His cosmetic practice includes all aspects of cosmetic facial, breast and body contouring surgery.
 
 
Mr. Greg Williams MBBS, FRCS, FRCS (Plast)

Greg Williams was educated in the West Indies and Canada before pursuing a surgical career in the UK. He trained as a general surgeon in London and became a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1995.
 
He specialised in Plastic Surgery working in a number of teaching hospitals in London before being awarded the Fellowship in Plastic Surgery (FRCS Plast.). During his plastic surgery training he became interested in caring for people with burns injuries and spent a year as a fellow at the Shriners Hospital in Texas, USA - one of the premier burns units in the world.
 
He is now a Consultant Plastic and Burns Surgeon at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in Central London. He is entered on the GMC Specialist Register for Plastic Surgery, has published in the internal medical literature and has presented at national and international meetings. He is also actively involved in teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
 
As a consequence of dealing with patients with severe burns, Mr Williams not only specialises in all forms of scar revision surgery, but he has also developed a special interest in hair restoration surgery, both for scarred scalps and for hereditary male pattern baldness. He trained in Brazil with one of the foremost hair restoration surgeons in the world before joining London Plastic Surgery Associates.
 
Mr. Simon Wood MBBS, FRCSEd, FRCS (Plast)

Simon Wood has been Consultant Plastic Surgeon at Charing Cross Hospital for over 10 years. He qualified from the Royal London Hospital, and trained in plastic surgery in Cambridge and Norwich.
 
Simon Wood specialises in reconstruction following cancer of the breast or head and neck and has one of the largest personal series of free flaps in each of these areas. He also provides reconstructive services for surgeons, gynaecologists, urologists and orthopaedic surgeons throughout all the Imperial Hospitals. Mr Wood has a keen interest in teaching and training at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
 
Outside the NHS, Mr Wood works closely with his wife running a practice in Eyes and Plastics with his wife. He is also a respected member of the Royal Society of Medicine, sitting on the Plastic Surgery Sections general committee.
 
 
Ms. Gillian Smith MB BCh, FRCS, (Ed), FRCS (Plast)

Gill Smith provides the congenital hand service for Great Ormond Street Hospital, one of only a few units internationally. She was previously a consultant at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, Aylesbury. She is a Londoner from Tottenham, who was educated at Latymer School, Edmonton. From there a toss of a coin and help from above, took her to what was then the University of Wales College Of Medicine in Cardiff.

As a third year medical student, she decided on a career as a congenital hand surgeon - despite the lack of training in that field in medical school. She entered the world of surgical training in Wales, where a female surgeon was as scarcely seen as an armadillo in the hospitals. Her training took her through South Wales, to Edinburgh, Nottingham, Bristol, Cambridge and Birmingham where she was privileged to work for some remarkable surgeons and characters. In addition to her general and plastic surgery training, she has spent nearly three years in specialist hand and upper limb training in Derby, London and Louisville, Kentucky and visited units in Taiwan and Dallas. Gill Smith has delivered multiple presentations internationally, been invited to speak nationally and internationally on aspect of hand surgery, has published in plastic and hand surgery and is currently assistant editing one of the premier textbooks in hand surgery.

Gill Smith is keen on training but also keen to retain life and friends outside medicine, with interests that include travel, hiking and belly dancing. She aims to instil enthusiasm for her specialty, and for life, in those she trains.

 
 
Mr. James Bellringer MB BChir FRCS (Urol)

James Bellringer was born in 1958, and educated at King's College School Wimbledon, Pembroke College Cambridge, and St Thomas' Hospital Medical School in London. After qualifying in 1982, he embarked on Surgical and Urological training. Following time at the Institute of Urology, he was appointed a Consultant Urological Surgeon in 1995.
 
In 1999, he was invited to train in Gender Reassignment Surgery, and received training from Mr. Michael Royle. His special interest is genital surgery, including penile prostheses and genital reconstruction, erectile dysfunction and female incontinence. Mr.Bellringer’s research covers erectile dysfunction, gender reassignment. He currently performs in the region of 65 reassignment operations each year and is one of the world leaders in gender reassignment surgery.
 
He is a member of British Association of Urological Surgeons, European Association of Urology and Royal Society of Medicine.
 
 
Ms. Helen McEvoy BSc, MBBS, MA, FRCS (Plast)
 
Helen McEvoy graduated from Cambridge University in 1998 and completed her Basic Surgical training in London achieving MRCS (Eng) in 2001. After spending time in research to obtain a Masters in Health Informatics she joined the Pan Thames Plastic Surgery Rotation. She passed the FRCS (Plast) in 2008. She has worked in various plastic surgery units in and around London and undertook a fellowship in oncoplastic surgery at the Royal Marsden Hospital in 2008. In 2009 she became a mother and is now back at work in her final year of training at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital.
